If you have already done some amount of data collection, make an inventory of your data. If you have not done any data collection yet, don’t worry! Just pick a folder where you store your digital files, and make an inventory of its contents.

1. Make a list of the different types of digital content that you have, e.g., audio, video, transcription or other text-based content, databases, spreadsheets, etc.
2. For each content type, note the file formats (extensions), e.g., .mp3 and .wav for audio, .eaf for transcriptions and translations, .csv for spreadsheets, etc. 
3. Estimate the total KB, MB, or GB that you have for each content type.
