Step 9: Activities

Prepare a collection description to explain the collection in broad terms to users so that they can determine if the collection will be useful to them:

  1. Provide enough information to allow someone to cite the collection.
  2. Write the collection description that either includes or directs users to contextual information about the production of the collection, its content, arrangement, and anything else a user would need to know to make use of (or at least access) the data.

Make an accompanying comprehensive list of the collection’s contents, which will serve as a finding aid.

Determine if you need to create a detailed, article-length collection guide.

Determine if you need to translate the guide and finding aid into a language other than English. If so, do it.
